So, you’re about to go to University, huh? Or maybe you’re in your second or third year and things are getting really serious because now your grades count. Either way you’re about to embark on a new phase in your learning and there’s so much to do and so much to learn, right?
I guess right now you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed and unsure about how to move forward. You’ve never had to fly solo before and it’s all…well…a bit terrifying isn’t it?
- You have no idea how you’re going to get round to doing everything
- You’ve probably never lived and studied independently before
- You’ve got a thousand assignments to complete and you’ve discovered that just going to the library doesn’t seem to get the work done
- I bet that nagging doubt-devil that we all have kicking around in our heads has already worked it’s way into your thoughts. Maybe, right now, it’s convinced you that you don’t even deserve your place at university
Trust me I’ve been there! Hey! Anyone who’s ever been to uni has been there (even if they won’t admit it)!
But, I know that you’re going to be okay, do you want to know why?
You’re here, and that tells me that you’re a problem solver, somebody who is not prepared to let a little bit of fear get in the way of getting what you want and need…your degree! And I know that you’re not going to settle for just any degree, I know that you want to put yourself ahead of the herd when you join the job market by getting the best damn degree you can.
Here’s the thing, nobody gets it straight away. I certainly didn’t. But because I’ve been exactly where you are now, and I’ve made the BIG, no HUGE mistakes already I can help you to avoid them. All you have to do is work with me
The BIG thing is, YOU’VE made the decision to find help and be proactive – that’s a great start!
Now you’re here, I can help you move forward and actually encourage you to enjoy your learning experience!
Oh, and by the way, you absolutely do deserve your place!
A Bit About Me – don’t worry, I’ll keep it brief!
Hi! My name is Nicki Walsh, and as you might have already guessed, I’m PASSIONATE about helping students like you learn to love learning – just like I do!
I studied Creative and Professional Writing combined with Film Studies at a university in central England. This went quite well and I came out with a First Class Honours degree and a lifelong addiction to learning.
I went on to do some post-grad study, this time in education…and guess what…I still loved learning, but I discovered that I also really loved teaching. Well actually, what I found out was that I really loved making it possible for others learn in a way that best suits them.
I taught at the university, I taught in schools, I taught summer schools, I even taught teachers!
My new challenge is this online Academic Skills Academy, and guess what…I’m back in the classroom not just as a student-guide, but also as a student. Oh boy, the tech, the marketing strategies, figuring out social media…it goes on and on. Good job I love to learn, huh?
Hey, thinking about it this is a good thing because it gives us an opportunity to learn together. I can learn my new stuff while you learn yours. We can work together to achieve our goals. Sound like a plan?
I want you to feel the way I do about learning!
Over the years I’ve helped many students get the most out of their studies. I specialise in topics like essay writing, getting organised, carrying out research, thinking critically, delivering killer presentations to name just a few
The truth is, we all have to start somewhere
I didn’t go to university knowing how to succeed. I’d been out of school for at least sixteen years when I started – talk about a steep learning curve! But I was lucky enough to find somebody to mentor me through my transition into real learning. Learning that I owned and controlled.
Now I’d love it if you’d give me the opportunity to be the guide who helps you to do the same.
Okay, I think you’ve got a feel for who I am and how I can help you so I’ll sign off for now. But you can read a bit more about why I decided to set up this website in my blog post Why Did I Start This Blog? From Cop to Study Skills Blogger
Just quickly, before I go, I’d like to invite you to join my email list (it’s totally free and I promise it won’t be used in a spammy way, that’s not who I am or what I do).
